A little note from Chattering Birds Garden creator Carol Gilman sharing the backstory of this magical place. Enjoy!
In 2015 I began sketching and writing about the birds in my own backyard in what I fondly call my bird diaries. Day to day I looked forward with excitement to see how the garden changed and how the birds enjoyed their time there. These cute birds became my dear friends, so much so, that I gave them names. To share my love of these feathered friends, I used my sketches as inspiration to paint watercolors about the cute moment’s from their lives.
Along the way I began to use my imagination, creativity, and humor more and more in my art, and a new world organically developed. I now wrote and painted about a cute cast of characters who lived in a fanciful garden. The characters of this imaginary place included Chirpie, Scout, and Mavis, as well as bird cushion flowers, Bird Hotel, Beatrice the Bee, and many more. What was missing was a name for their peaceful, whimsical and cozy home. After a couple of suggestions, including “The Garden”, and Chirpie’s suggestion for “Chirpie’s Garden”, the birdies decided on Chattering Birds Garden, since, as they pointed out, (if you use your imagination and listen closely), you can hear all of the birdies chattering and chirping away. And so, our magical world became known as Chattering Birds Garden.
Today Chattering Birds Garden, just like a real garden, continues to unfold from season to season. Everyday I love sketching, painting, and writing about the characters who call this place home. It is so exciting that what began as a love for the birdies in my own garden, has sprouted into a lovely and cute place for everyone to feel cozy and happy.
